“Tiết Vu Lan bâng khuâng nhớ cha công dưỡng dục
Mùa Báo Hiếu bùi ngùi thương mẹ đức cù lao”
Một lần nữa, Mùa Vu Lan báo hiếu lại trở về, là dịp để cho tất cả mọi người con dành hết tất cả tấm lòng hướng về hai đấng sanh thành để tỏ lòng tri ân trong muôn một. Riêng người xuất gia ngoài ơn cha mẹ còn có ơn Thầy Tổ rất quan trọng, nên nhà Phật có câu:
“Ơn giáo dưỡng một đời nên huệ mạng,
Nghĩa Ân sư muôn kiếp khó đáp đền.”

“Hạnh phúc thay, đức Phật giáng sinh!
Hạnh phúc thay, giáo pháp cao minh!
Hạnh phúc thay, chúng Tăng hòa hợp!
Hạnh phúc thay, tứ chúng đồng tu!”
Phàm là những liên hữu gia nhập ban hộ niệm, đều có danh sách. Thân nhân quyến thuộc của thành viên trong ban hộ niệm, họ cũng tin Phật pháp,
Pháp môn Tịnh độ là một trong mười tông phái của Phật giáo Trung Hoa, đây là tông phái siêu việt được các bậc cổ đức liệt vào tông phái Đại thừa viên đốn.
Kinh A Di Đà thuộc Tiểu bản, là bản kinh được trì tụng hằng ngày của Tăng già cũng như Phật tử thuộc Tông Tịnh Độ ở Trung Hoa, Nhật Bản và Việt Nam.

Mùa Vu lan hay mùa báo hiếu trong đạo Phật thường gợi chúng ta nhớ đến lời dạy rất sâu sắc của Đức Phật rằng tâm hiếu là tâm Phật, hạnh hiếu là hạnh Phật.
Phật dạy: “Cùng tột điều thiện không gì hơn hiếu Cùng tột điều ác không gì hơn bất hiếu”. (Kinh Nhẫn Nhục)
Lễ Vu lan mang một ý nghĩa đạo lý nhân văn sâu sắc đối với không chỉ người con Phật, mà còn đối với tất cả những người con ở khắp muôn nơi. Trong đạo Phật có một bản kinh nói về tình cảm thiêng liêng giữa cha mẹ và con cái, đó là kinh Vu lan bồn. Bản kinh ghi lại lời dạy của Đức Phật về cách đền ân sinh thành và phụng dưỡng khi cha mẹ còn tại thế hoặc đã qua đời.

Đây là con đường duy nhất để thanh lọc (tâm) chúng sanh, chấm dứt lo âu phiền muộn, uất ức than khóc, diệt khổ thân và khổ tâm, đạt Thánh Đạo và chứng ngộ Niết Bàn. Đó là Tứ Niệm Xứ (bốn cách quán sát).
Đúng thật như thế, chính tôi được nghe: Một thời Đức Phật cư ngụ tại nước Tì-xá-li, đến giờ Ngài vào thành khất thực. Lúc bấy giờ, trong thành Tì-xá-li có một người dòng dõi Lê-xa, tên Tì-la-tiễn-na (Trung Quốc dịch là Dũng Quân). Giống như chư thiên và các tiên nữ cùng nhau vui chơi, vương tử và các thể nữ cũng vui đùa với nhau trên lầu gác, chìm đắm sắc dục như vậy.
Tôi nghe như vầy, một hôm nọ Đức Thế Tôn và đại chúng Tỳ-kheo du hành đến thị trấn Kê-sa-pu-ta của sắc dân Ka-la-ma thuộc nước Kô-sa-la. Hôm ấy dân chúng cung kính quây quần bên Đức Phật. Có người thành kính vấn an sức khỏe. Có người cung kính đảnh lễ. Có người lễ phép khoanh tay. Và có người lặng lẽ chăm chú ngắm nhìn tôn nhan của Đức Phật và đại chúng Tỳ-kheo. Rồi vài người trong số họ bắt đầu thưa chuyện:
